I ran 126 km in 4 Months. Here are The 3 Things I Learned.
Running is hands down the activity I enjoy the most. You would have already heard about its benefits a bazillion times. But these 3 things are not shared with people enough.
For a person who shamelessly snoozes seven times in a row,
100+ km is pretty big.
After having a 3km high-paced run,
I wrote the below line on my Notion dashboard.
Happiness comes from activating your lungs.
You are all sweaty.
You push yourself for that extra mile. You are in a constant battle with your inner bitch that asks you to rest your ass but you are winning every time.
You look up to the sun that's slowly rising to feed you energy in ways you can't comprehend.
You see people stopping with their hands over their knees. But.
You are still on track. Slowly pacing forwards. One step at a time.
You feel your breathing. The sweat feels good on your body.
Somehow it is getting better and better.
Running is like a dopamine recharge.
It is 90% mental struggle.
You will feel invincible after going through it.
#1 Biology Before Anything:
The current setting of culture promotes a lot of mental health stuff.
It is a nuanced problem. Seeking mental health advice should be someone’s last option. You will ask me why.
Let me unlock the best cheat code,
99% of your life’s problems are because of your biology.
- Sleep
- Hydration
- Exercise
- Sunlight
- Clean diet
If you handle the above 5 parameters, you will have successfully solved most of your problems altogether.
There is tight feedback between the body and mind.
Take care of your body and the mind takes care of itself.
One of the core habits is ‘moving’ every day. It is like a magic pill.
You come through as a different person after you sweat. Your problems appear different. You feel more capable and will bleed pure optimism.
If you don’t exploit your body first thing in the morning,
you can't use your mind for the better.
Find a form of movement you enjoy. Experiment.
Walking, running, resistance training, swimming, jump rope, or any form of sports.
And next time you see an elevator, you just say it's only for lazy fucks and take the stairs. Feel your hams with each step. *Ahhhhhhhh*
Sick bodies produce sick thoughts

#2 The Myth Of Weight Loss:
Working out never makes you lose weight.
Unless you love working out.
If you don't love it, you won't be consistent in the first place.
And if you are not consistent, forget expecting that stupid tummy to go away.
Case closed.
By the time I started running, I was not in a place of worrying about my weight. I had a decent physique and did not focus much on losing weight.
I then just fell in love with exhausting my body.
And to my surprise and as a side effect, I lost 7 kgs.
There is a huge lesson there.
If you do something as a means to an end, you will inevitably fuck up.
Don’t obsess over losing weight. You will gain back weight once you reach your checkpoint. It shows that you only loved getting obsessed with the mental imagery of a better future and not the process of getting to it.
If you do something for the benefit, you can’t sustain its discomfort.
Find ways to fall in love with it instead.
#3 How To Make It Stick? :
The key to making a habit stick is awareness.
Think of yourself as a scientist and treat your life as an experiment.
I figured it out through a series of trials and errors.
Deliberately removed any friction that got in the way.
Then I found the routine that I fell in love with.
Motivation does not work.
If you do something only if you feel motivated,
it means you don't love the thing but the motivation itself.
Get out of this rut.
There will be some days where sleeping an extra half an hour seems like a better option. But remember.
Quitting the workout feels good in the short term;
Working out feels difficult for the first five minutes.
To more miles,
Subash.
NOTE:
Avoid injury at all costs.
If there is any pain, it is the way your body telling you that you should calm your tits down. Being careless with it will inevitably lead you to contemplate how to poop or how to put on your own pants without pain.
Rest when your knee/heel screams “Fuck you”
Enjoy :D
